SGA Initiatives 2011-2012

Student Center

We need to ask ourselves why is it that we go back to our rooms after every class? Why is it that even though there are only 2,000 students at Trinity we still don’t know everyone by name? Why can’t we seem to get the word out to everyone about an event? I do not believe that these realities are occurring because we fail to try. It is because we do not have a location where we can go to if we’re not eating or studying. There is no place on campus where students can go and expect to meet someone new, no place to have fun. With a student center, there will be space for every student organization, room for recreational activities, a lounge that will encourage socializing, a pub and much more. Let’s look to all of the colleges around our area who have such a place, and dream of the potential for our own.

The Mayor Speaks at Trinity!

On Thursday, September 15th, Mayor Eddie Alberto Perez will be speaking at 4:15 in the Washington Room. This event is open to all students, come join us!

Transparency in SGA

We will look to increase our transparency by posting minutes and the agenda for our meetings on Trinity Today (we already post it on our website). We want to start up On-the-Can again; a newsletter posted around campus the progress of SGA. You can also find updates about SGA in our weekly press release in the Tripod. Everyone is welcome to our Senate meetings, which are open meetings. There will be suggestion boxes installed in many areas around campus. Most importantly, we will reach out to you to make it easier for you to talk to us.

Trading Senators

Send SGA senators to different NESCACs and invite them to Trinity! This program will broaden our ideas and help us enhance our college experience.

Bike-Share Program

Have bikes that can be used by Trinity students to go around campus. We have the bikes, now we have to finalize the details of the program.

Bistro Pub Night

For those 21+ who are interested in grabbing a few drinks with their friends. This event happens several times a year at the Bistro.

Environmental Friendliness

We signed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), you can find out more about this policy here: (http://www.trincoll.edu/AboutTrinity/offices/sustainability/Pages/Green.aspx). But wcould do more than just making sure buildings that we build in the future are up to environmentally friendly standards. We can look to make many small and large changes to our current infrastructure that will improve our energy efficiency. We need to start getting serious in making sure that our actions and decisions are environmentally conscious.

January Term

Utilizing our time to its maximum, the January term would be a way students can learn about eclectic topics taught by students themselves! It would take place during our winter break. Currently, the issue is funding.

Better Wireless

There is still some sporadic wireless on major parts of campus such as the Cave.
