The International House (iHouse)

The iHouse is one of the newly sanctioned cultural houses on our campus by the Vernon Allen Planning Committee. The iHouse came into existence last fall and since then has already held various organized events. The iHouse is located on 104-106 Vernon Street. During the fall semester, the iHouse executive board and its member base worked on various documentation for the organization to operate smoothly, such as the constitution that was submitted to the SGA for its recognition on campus. The house was non-functional during the past semester since the offices located there were being moved. This did not stop the organization from planning and performing events through collaboration with various other organizations on campus. The following is a list of the large scale events that the iHouse participated in this past semester:

  1. iHouse Cultural Awareness Dinner with the Resident Assistants of Area 2
  2. Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) thanksgiving dinner
  3. On Campus thanksgiving dinner for students who stayed back during the Thanksgiving break.

Since being allowed to start working with the house this semester, the organization has diverted all its energy into renovation and decoration of the house. This is using up a lot of the organization’s resources but is making sure that the premise is well set for the various activities that the iHouse will be undertaking from next fall onwards. Currently however, the iHouse has also began running a film festival at the house. This will continue till the end of the semester for two days a week. There are other small scale events that the organization has and will be taking part in this semester, such as the end of the semester block party.
The goal of the iHouse is to bring together all the various identities on campus and create a cultural melting pot where we can all learn to be inclusive in an amicable and fun manner. This is deep rooted to the mission statement of the organization and the proposal its members made to the Vernon Allen Planning Committee that led to its existence. To that end, the iHouse wishes to hold various large scale and continuing programs, starting next semester when it officially holds its first in the line of many campus wide events.
