AASA
Asian American Student Association
As only a few people know, the Asian-American Student Association (AASA) actually had two prominent ancestral organizations. The first Chinese Fraternity in the United States started in this college in 1910. F.F. Fraternity, was started by Chinese international students sent by their country to America so that they may return with Western ideals and knowledge to help strengthen their nation. Unfortunately, the fraternity no longer exists in the college, but there are chapters in Harvard and Yale Universities. Moving on, the Asian Students International Association (ASIA) was created in 1983 to provide a sense of community to Asian students and to others interested in Asian cultures. It consisted of twelve members—most of which were international students. ASIA continued to expand and its name was later changed to the Asian-American Students Association (AASA) to accommodate students of Asian heritage yet born in the United States. By the year 2000, the AASA house was commemorated along with other cultural houses of La Loz Latina and Imani. All houses provide fun, safe, and entertaining social venues not only for their respective members, but for many interested students and administrators of different backgrounds and colors as well. Currently, AASA boasts more than fifty members and a handful of administrators. It is one of the most dynamic and active organizations in Trinity and all are welcome to participate in all of its activities.
