SGA Committees
The Student Government Association has one standing council, seven standing committees, and an ad hoc Housing Committee. Each of these groups was created to address a wide variety of issues in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Below you will find a brief description of each of these groups and links to more detailed semester specific information.
Multicultural Affairs Council
The Multicultural Affairs Council is a coalition consisting of the different cultural organizations that exist on campus. MAC functions as a social support network and political mechanism for organizations that work in the interests of underrepresented students. Mainly, it is a bridge to SGA. MAC attempts to unify students of different backgrounds to work together towards a common cause of diversification, inclusiveness, unity and the elimination of prejudice and bigotry.
Elections, Recruitment and Communications Committee
The ERC Committee is charged with keeping the student body, faculty, administration, trustees and outside community informed as to the decisions and actions taken by the SGA. It is responsible for all promotional media including this web site, SGA bulletin boards, working with TrinTV, student newspapers, etc. ERC also works closely with other SGA committees to help promote their initiatives. Additionally, ERC is responsible for recruiting new senators and non-SGA committee members. The chairperson of this committee oversees all student-wide SGA elections and serves as the director of public relations for the SGA.
Student Life Committee
The Student Life Committee is charged with creating a better quality of life for the Trinity College community by addressing the needs of the student communities on campus. This includes such issues as health, housing, the fitness center, planning, and all policies pertaining to student life. The Chairperson of Student Life maintains open dialog with the Dean of Students, the head of the Health Center, head of the Fitness Center, and the head of Housing.
Academic Affairs Committee
The Academic Affairs Committee is charged with facilitating student/faculty interaction, dealing with all aspects of academic life. It addresses all concerns dealing with academic facilities such as the library, classrooms, practice space, and all other available academic resources. The Chairperson maintains an open dialog with the SGA Faculty Liaison, Dean of Faculty, the Associate Academic Dean, and the Director of Information Technology.
Campus Infrastructure Committee
The Campus Infrastructure Committee is charged with managing all auxiliary services including transportation and dining services and issues of sustainability including planning and recycling. The Chairperson maintains open dialog with the head of Recycling, head of Chartwells, and the head of Facilities.
Campus Climate and Community Outreach Committee
This year the Campus Climate and Community Outreach Committee is focused on improving the social climate on campus. Our vision as a Committee is to create more dialogue between different social spheres on campus and to help encourage greater cooperation between all of them. In order to do this our committee is engaged with the Vice-President of MAC, the College Chaplain and her Student Task force on campus climate, as well as the Dean of Students. Asides from working to create a forum for greater discussion between social organizations our committee works to engage with the community surrounding Trinity’s campus.
Safety and Wellness Committee
The Student Safety and Wellness Committee is charged with working to improve wellness on campus including, but not limited to, safety and lighting around campus and in residential dormitories, health, and sexual assault. The Student Safety and Wellness Committee shall also serve as a liaison between the SGA and the existing safety and/or wellness focused organizations on campus.
Budget Committee
The SGA Budget Committee (SGABC) is comprised of members elected from the student body, and members appointed from within the SGA. The SGABC is charged with allocating funds from the SAF to student organizations for non-entertainment related events (conferences, lectures, speakers, supplies for academic events, etc.). Entertainment Activities Council
Ad Hoc Housing Committee
As its name suggests, the Housing Committee handles all issues pertaining to student housing. As housing needs tend to vary from semester to semester, the Housing Committee is only called to order when there are specific housing needs that the Student Government feels deserve special attention.
