About The Cab Vouchers
As Flo briefly mentioned, the Campus Climate Committee is currently working on establishing a cab voucher system which will allow students to travel to various locations around Hartford with greater ease and flexibility. We hope that this new system will encourage more Bantams to venture out into the community to go out for lunch, shopping at the mall, or exploring the various nightlife venues in the city. At the moment, we’re debating whether we should involve campus transportation in the project or solicit the services of a private cab company as we work out the exact details. If you feel the urge to do so, email any of the Campus Climate Committee members with any questions or comments you might have. Input and/or suggestions are also welcome and encouraged. Thanks, Natalia.

What does everybody think of this?
I like the idea of people who are intoxicated and need a ride back to campus being able to just call a cab and not having to worry about the rest. However, I don’t think this would do that. For example, what if people don’t have the voucher with them?
I can see a few other problems too… Will the cab voucher be for one way only? How will people get back to campus? Will all 2400 students get a cab voucher? That sounds really expensive.
The reason I thought it was a good idea to contact a cab company about a deal for students was because of drunken driving. When we created the Bantam Bus one of the biggest reasons for doing it was to prevent or reduce the instances of drunken driving. With the bus service no longer in operation I figured this might be a good way to fight the drunken driving problem.
I think the transportation issue is different. I have been working with Dean Alford, Campus Safety, and David Andres to try to address the larger transportation issue in a financially feasible way. I would be happy to tell you more about this.
I am concerned that Cab vouchers would not be the most effective or efficient way to address the transportation problem on campus. But, maybe I am missing something.
What does everyone else think?
