A Lesson Learned From Tonight’s Meeting

Just wanted to write a quick note that expresses one of the sentiments I had from today. I feel that a large chunk of the Senate’s time tonight was spent on hearing, discussing, and then voting on candidates for a number of positions that were not filled during the regular elections. Frankly, I find it rather absurd! I think the lesson to be learned from this is that everyone should encourage their friends to run for open seats — after all, what is there to lose? If you’re thinking about running, why not just do it? Again, there’s really no risk involved. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? In any case, my hope is that for elections in the future, the entire student body is just as excited about the SGA and getting involved as was the Class of 2012 this time around. It shouldn’t take 2+ rounds of appointments to get an adequate amount of representation! And isn’t it just better if everyone has a say in who will be representing them, not just 30 or so kids that decide on people after listening to 60 second speeches? In any case, I think by now you pretty much get the gist of what I’m trying to say. Here’s to better turnout in semesters to come.
