Faculty Night at Mather

On Monday, March 15th at 6-7 PM the SGA and Chartwells are hosting Faculty Night at Mather to bring faculty and students together outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to invite any of their professors and peers for a classy Mather dining experience. The SGA will be funding the cost of meals for all members of the faculty. Just show up – there’s no reservation system.

Please invite your professors and friends! There’s no barrier to entry – just show up. This is a great and easy way to bring the Trinity community closer together.

Hello Trinity students,

The Academic Affairs committee of the SGA has been very active this year making Trin better with the course evaluations, the registrar’s forms in Mather, and ISBN numbers. We would to continue to make academics fun and exciting by organizing Interdepartmental Trivia night among different departments. This would mean that different majors would form teams and compete in a trivia competition. We are thinking that it would be an evening affair and that professors would also be part of the game.

However, we would like to know if students would be interested in something like this before going through with concrete plans. We welcome all feedback, comments, concerns, questions, and ideas for a Trivia Night. Please let us know so that we can make this happen for you!

Gardasil Vaccine

Protect yourself! Get the shot.

Gardasil is a vaccine that is used for the prevention of genital warts in males and cervical cancer in females, which are caused by the Human papillomavirus (HPV). Vaccinated and more information will be provided by the Health Clinic on Tuesday, February 23 from 11:30-1:30 in Terrace Room A.

This event is sponsored by the Health Center.

Common Hour Budget Presentation!

If anyone wanted to know about other cool things happening during common hour on Thursday 18th, I will be giving a budget presentation of sorts in Terrace Room B. Intended for anyone who wants to start a club, existing clubs’ leaders who have questions about requesting money from Budget Committee, or for the fun of it. A light lunch will be provided. The initiative is headed by amazing Music & Media Librarian, Amy Harrell, 4 Librarians, and 2 members from Information Technology. If you do not know me that well, I love the people at the Library. It is really surprising that a lot of the great features that we use on a daily basis are developed and maintained by librarians for students. I just wanted to inform you of some cool tech that is in the Library that you probably do not know about.

1. A mobile-friendly version of the library web site is now available at http://library.trincoll.edu/m You can also access it by clicking on the “Mobile-friendly” link at the top of our the library web site. The mobile version of the library’s web site is designed for viewing and navigating on the smaller screens of cell phones and other mobile devices. It includes just a few of the primary functions of the main web site.

2. If you are using a computer to access the Library’s catalog, and can never remember the books you wanted, the Library now has a quick and easy solution. TEXT MESSAGE! If you find the book you want in the Library’s Catalog, you go to the right-hand column under “ACTIONS” and select “Text me the title and call #.” VOILA! You instantly receive a text message with the Title and how to find it in the Library. It is like Christmas Morning for any academic junkie like myself.

New Textbooks at the Library

Are you taking a class in Chemistry, Economics, Language & Culture Studies, or Psychology and are required to buy a textbook that costs more than $100? Check the Library’s course reserves to see if a copy is available for you in the Library. To see if your textbook is available on reserve: go to the library catalog’s course reserve tab, for Instructor choose Textbook Reserves, for Course choose Any, then click Search. Alternatively, you can search the catalog by the title of the textbook.

All textbooks purchased for this project will be on reserve as long as they are used for a course. Reserve books can be borrowed for 2 hours at a time.

The project was initiated by the SGA’s Academic Affairs together with the Dean of Faculty’s Office and the Library. Its goal is to provide students with an alternative to buying expensive study material for their classes. During the spring semester, the :ibrary will evaluate the project and hopefully extend it to all departments in fall of 2010.
