The Democratic Moment
For those of us who have been following the Democratic primary for the last two months tomorrow may be the most important day of the year. Though Super Tuesday was almost a month ago, we have come almost no closer to deciding a Democratic candidate for President. Tomorrow however, as Senator Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama compete for victory in Vermont, Rhode Island, Texas, and Ohio, we stand on the edge of what could be a make-or-break day.
Though it is highly unlikely that any final decisions will be made tomorrow, the candidacy of Senator Clinton could be either revived or undone. It is strange therefore, that many of us who began the year in the throes of political fervor find ourselves somewhat weary. The close nature of this year’s primary has kept us on the tip of our toes for so long that many of us are getting leg cramps. Whatever happens tomorrow, I hope that the excitement that this campaign began with can be revived.
It’s time for the candidates to do and say something which inspires us to get excited for November, and to start looking forward to a new day in 2009. I hope tomorrow brings us one step closer to that day, regardless of who comes out on top.
