Committees and Councils
The Student Government Association has two councils six committees. Each of these groups was created to address a wide variety of issues in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Below you will find a brief description of each of these groups and links to more detailed semester specific information. The Budget Committee, the Entertainment Activities Council and the Multicultural Affairs Council are standing representative bodies independent from the Senate, but under its oversight. Budget Committee
The SGA Budget Committee (SGABC) is comprised of members elected from the student body, and members appointed from within the SGA. The SGABC is charged with allocating funds from the SAF to student organizations for non-entertainment related events (conferences, lectures, speakers, supplies for academic events, etc.).
Entertainment Activities Council
The Entertainment Activities Council (EAC) is the branch of SGA that specializes in providing students with entertainment. This committee is comprised of student representatives from each class, representatives from four different student organizations, an SGA representative and the SGA financial secretary. Social, Special Events and Music Chairs are appointed internally
Multicultural Affairs Council
The Multicultural Affairs Council is a coalition consisting of the different cultural organizations that exist on campus. MAC functions as a social support network and political mechanism for organizations that work in the interests of underrepresented students. Mainly, it is a bridge to SGA. MAC attempts to unify students of different backgrounds to work together towards a common cause of diversification, inclusiveness, unity and the elimination of prejudice and bigotry.
Student Life Committee
The Student Life Committee is tasked with creating a better quality of quality of life for the Trinity College community by addressing the needs of students on campus through the organization, planning and execution of events and programs. The committee will collaborate with the existing social and cultural student organizations, Greek-letter organizations, and the Entertainment Activities Council to manage a Student Social Calendar. The committee will facilitate student/faculty interaction by fostering a student-faculty relationship outside of the classroom.
Safety & Wellness Committee
The Safety & Wellness Committee is charged with addressing the needs of students on campus, this includes such issues as health and counseling services, housing, athletic center, residential life, recycling and sustainability, and dining services. The committee is charged with working to improve wellness on campus including, but not limited to, safety and lighting around campus and in residential dormitories, health, and sexual assault.
Academic Affairs Committee
The Academic Affairs Committee works to improve the college’s emphasis on academic prestige, develops means of improving campus climate, determines means of improving Admissions from a student’s perspective, drafts policy recommendations to the College on behalf of the SGA to be presented to the Senate for approval, conducts research to prepare for the drafting of policy recommendations for such policies, deals with academic facilities such as the library, classrooms, practice space, and all other available academic resources, and maintains a working relationship between the Student Body and the Hartford community.
Elections, Recruitment and Communications Committee
The ERC Committee is charged with keeping the student body, faculty, administration, trustees and outside community informed as to the decisions and actions taken by the SGA. It is responsible for all promotional media including this web site, SGA bulletin boards, working with TrinTV, student newspapers, etc. ERC also works closely with other SGA committees to help promote their initiatives. Additionally, ERC is responsible for recruiting new senators and non-SGA committee members. The chairperson of this committee oversees all student-wide SGA elections.
Housing Committee
As its name suggests, the Housing Committee handles all issues pertaining to student housing. As housing needs tend to vary from semester to semester, the Housing Committee is only called to order when there are specific housing needs that the Student Government feels deserve special attention, as well as to conduct the appeal process of the Housing Lottery.
