Hello Bikes!

Student Life Committee 3 Comments »

Hello my friends and fellow SGA senators! I’d like to inform you of a very interesting project that the Student Life Committee is currently working on. We’re working on bringing bicycles to Trinity students! Get ready friends, because no longer will you have to endure that terrible hungover walk to class on Wednesday morning, or walk of shame; now you can do A RIDE OF SHAME! Bike by fellow students so quickly that they will not even notice your messy hair, smeared makeup or mini skirt. This bike sharing program will be wonderful, and any thoughts, questions or comments about the idea would be great. We will have bike racks around campus with numberous bikes that you can use simply by swiping your ID card on a box, opening a little door (like for tinker-bell sized people) and retrieve a key which will unlock the bike lock. When you’re done being shameful, eating or coming back from class, simply return the bike to any other hub and put the key back Simple as egg white omlets at Mather with ham, American Cheese, onions and peppers. In short, bikes. Get excited. Get ready. Pump up your tires, because otherwise you’ll crash and scrape your knee! owwwwwwww!

Until Next Time,

Stay fresh to impress with pants all pressed.

Sincerely

Dr. Peter Walters MD – Senator At-Large reppin’ 2011 until 2052!

Whats going on with the student life committee?

Hello fellow Bantams. We have started of this semester with some cool projects and we’ve got a group of 4 strong participants. Here’s what we’ve been keeping busy with:

JT (Class of 2009): working on getting teachers to release their syllabuses before students sign up for classes. At the least, JT expects to get the students their book lists for their classes before they begin so that they will be able to order their books online for cheap.

Will and Sam: working to clear up land on summit street for parking spaces

Peter and I (Tim Stiefler): working to bring a bike lease program to Trinity for the Fall 2009 semester.

Email me at timothy.stiefler@trincoll.edu if you have any questions or questions. If your interested in participating in the committee we meet every Monday in the underground at 5.

The Student Life Committee’s Class Officer Constitution

Student Life Committee 2 Comments »

Senior Class President Dan Hoyle was kind enough to join the Student Life Committee this past Wednesday to discuss the Class Officer Constitution that Andrea Wise is spearheading on behalf of the Student Life Committee.  The main objective of the Constitution is to increase the accountability of officers to their respective classes. We proposed a series of checks and balances according to which class officers would report to, and have some oversight by, the SGA.  Dan was adamant that the SGA should not have any oversight of class officers for a series of (well-articulated and rational) reasons, though he supports the underlying notion that class officers should be held more accountable.  We worked together to develop a series of ideas to further that goal:

*Officers will send monthly emails to their respective classes in which they detail that which they are   doing for their classes.  It should be noted actualizing the idea requires the creation of new student email accounts for the officers that grant them access to global distribution lists for their classes.

*Officers will to maintain and regularly update a class page on sga.com.

*We need increased awareness of the fact that class officers receive $3000 to spend on their class.

*OCL needs to be more proactive in its oversight of class officers’ work, beginning with clearly establishing the rules with officers when they are elected.

*Class Councils should be established (groups of people to sit alongside presidents at meetings, similar to the way in which senators sit amongst president of SGA.)

All thoughts on the proposed ideas, as well as new ideas, are appreciated.  Thanks.

Student Life Committee is Getting Busy

I can speak for myself and the rest of the Student Life Committee in stating that we all are stoked about the positive change that both the SGA at large, and our committee, have in the works.  From our “Go Green” initiative which includes the installation of solar panels & more bike racks, to the creation of a substance-free late night alternative, the Student Life Committee is actively working to improve our community.  A detailed list of all our objectives for the year can be found on the Student Life Committee homepage, which will be regularly updated.

It is our job to make your school a better place to learn and live- it is your job to let us know what we can do to meet that goal!
