As one of three Individual Degree Program senators, I am proud to announce that consensus among IDP students who were in attendance is one approval for Pub Night. The first Pub Night, hosted in November, offered IDP students an arena to interact with fellow students outside of classrooms. IDP students generally do not reside or attend parties on campus and therefore rarely find cause to interact with regular students beyond academics.
The informal atmosphere of Pub Night and presence of of-age only students put IDP students at ease. IDP and graduate students interacted with classmates and each other and are looking forward to a repeat of this affair on Friday, December 4th.
Those skeptical about whether campus climate can really be improved over a drink should come to Pub Night. December’s Pub Night promises to once again provide moderately priced beer and wine and free soft drinks and food. Guests with proper identification are permitted to attend the affair with Trinity students. The SGA and IDP are looking forward to keeping Pub Night active and need the support of all students to prove that this is a worthwhile and enjoyable event with real means to improve campus climate.

As Flo briefly mentioned, the Campus Climate Committee is currently working on establishing a cab voucher system which will allow students to travel to various locations around Hartford with greater ease and flexibility. We hope that this new system will encourage more Bantams to venture out into the community to go out for lunch, shopping at the mall, or exploring the various nightlife venues in the city. At the moment, we’re debating whether we should involve campus transportation in the project or solicit the services of a private cab company as we work out the exact details. If you feel the urge to do so, email any of the Campus Climate Committee members with any questions or comments you might have. Input and/or suggestions are also welcome and encouraged. Thanks, Natalia.

I am excited to say that the Campus Climate and Community Outreach Committee has had a great start to this year! The committee is made up of Monica Parker, Kimberly Lewis, Adam Katcher, Max Werner, Orko Momin, Natalia Kolakowska, and Flo Monier. We are excited to represent the student body and will hopefully have a very productive year. Right now the committee is working on extending the weekly “Bantam Breif” notices in Mather to include student sponsered events as well as those that the school puts on. If your club, committee, dorm, or group of friends would like to have their event advertised in Mather and the Cave, feel free to email anyone on the Campus Climate committee and we would be happy to add you to the calendar! We are also working on getting cab vouchers for students to use in their free time since the Bantam Bus is not running this year.More updates to come, and please feel free to contact anyone on this committee with suggestions, comments, complants, and ideas! Thanks,Flo Monier

At the beginning of this academic year, the Student Government Association created a new standing committee called the Committee on Campus Climate and Civic Engagement. The committee has taken the place of last year’s Diversity Committee. The Committee was created last year by the SGA to tackle issues concerning diversity and campus climate. The new Committee on Campus Climate has a broadened scope of issues that it is presently tackling including diversity, campus climate, admissions, public space on campus, and our perception in the community.
I am very excited to chair the Student Government Campus Climate and Civic Engagement Committee this semester. My name is Matthew Wrzesniewsky and I am a junior and an American Studies major. I have served on SGA for two consecutive years and chaired the Academic Affairs Committee last year. This is the inaugural year of the Committee on Campus Climate and Civic Engagement. The committee has a variety of ideas this year and represents a diversity of opinions and experiences. Other committee members are Flo Monier, Melissa Litwack and Tomas de’Medici. Together we are working to improve campus climate and establish the direction of the new committee.
