Hello Bikes!

Student Life Committee 3 Comments »

Hello my friends and fellow SGA senators! I’d like to inform you of a very interesting project that the Student Life Committee is currently working on. We’re working on bringing bicycles to Trinity students! Get ready friends, because no longer will you have to endure that terrible hungover walk to class on Wednesday morning, or walk of shame; now you can do A RIDE OF SHAME! Bike by fellow students so quickly that they will not even notice your messy hair, smeared makeup or mini skirt. This bike sharing program will be wonderful, and any thoughts, questions or comments about the idea would be great. We will have bike racks around campus with numberous bikes that you can use simply by swiping your ID card on a box, opening a little door (like for tinker-bell sized people) and retrieve a key which will unlock the bike lock. When you’re done being shameful, eating or coming back from class, simply return the bike to any other hub and put the key back Simple as egg white omlets at Mather with ham, American Cheese, onions and peppers. In short, bikes. Get excited. Get ready. Pump up your tires, because otherwise you’ll crash and scrape your knee! owwwwwwww!

Until Next Time,

Stay fresh to impress with pants all pressed.

Sincerely

Dr. Peter Walters MD – Senator At-Large reppin’ 2011 until 2052!

So, unfortunately, the campus pub project has been put on hold (I assume for at least this year) because of our current financial crisis. This of course is disappointing to myself, the others who are working on the project, and I would assume the student body at large who was excited for a new outlet for student-teacher conversations and a fun, on-campus weekly option. Alas, Trinity’s budget and endowment is infinitely more important to the overall operation and security of the institution and the students, than a campus pub. So, my next project was to address the issue of broken/problematic washer/dryers in some of the dormitories around campus. After speaking with David Andres, hoping to have the school do a campus wide audit of all the machines to see which needed maintenance I was told that the problems could be addressed much more easily; that is, students can report broken machines on an individual basis within their dorms. There are phone numbers posted in laundry rooms that students should call if there is a problem. This way seems much more efficient and logical to me, and, although the burden is now on students to be responsible, I think it will save the school’s staff time and money. My next project is to get “patio furniture” in the concrete jungle. If you have any thoughts or ideas about this project, or others that you think we should tackle, please feel free to contact me! Thanks

Campus Pub Update

Campus Infrastructure Committee No Comments »

Hello folks,

Just wanted to give you an update on the situation of the campus pub. As of last week, we have had a meeting where we met with members of the administration, Chartwells, and an architect to begin seriously making this dream a reality. At the meeting we talked about our overall vision of this pub and began talking about funding, function, operation, etc.  Our next meeting will this coming Tuesday and we hope to some more firm answers and information about the project. Again, please feel free to contact myself or any other member of the SGA with questions or comments.

Campus Pub

Campus Infrastructure Committee No Comments »

My project for now this semester is to help facilitate and and organize the creation of a campus Pub. As of now, architects are in the process of surveying a space in Mather Hall in which the Pub would be located. The main potential roadblock for the pub is water. Plumbing systems that would be necessary for the pub to work out would need to be extended from the cave kitchen to the location where the pub will be located. The question is whether this is feasible both logistically and monetarily.

I spoke with President Jones earlier this week to talk about how to push this process onward and to get a potential time table for this project. He essentially said that he has wanted to get this pub created for the last two years, but other projects have taken priority. This year, it seems, he is ready to get this project going. President Jones said he hopes, and believes, that this Pub could be completed by the end of this school year ( depending on the architects response about plausibility with extending the existing water systems). My next step is to talk to Dean Alfred about more of the details for this pub (licensing, contracts, staff, aesthetics, funding, pub name, creation of a student and faculty committee to get this project going) If you have any thoughts, ideas, questions, comments etc please do not hesitate to e-mail me, or respond to this post and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for reading!
