National Campus Energy Challenge

Feb 7, 2008   //   by Krystal Ramirez   //   Events  //  No Comments

Beginning tomorrow, February 8, 2008, I urge you all (students, faculty, staff, and administration) to make a strong effort to reduce your energy consumption. Trinity is taking part in a competition called the National Planet EarthCampus Energy Challenge where schools all over the United States are saving energy for the month of February in an attempt to win some fabulous prizes. As Trinity’s February electricity bill begins on the 8th and goes until March 8, this is when you need to do the most — turn off the lights when you leave your room, unplug all of your electronic devices and appliances, etc.

While it would be cool to win some neat stuff for our College, it’s really just an incentive; ideally, everyone will do this to try to save Mother Nature as our generation battles against the major issues of global warming and climate change. I urge you to check out climatechallenge.org/ncec for more information. Go Bantams!

Campus Infrastructure Who?

Looking back, I at times feel disappointed that I didn’t take the time my freshman year to become an active member of the Student Government Association (SGA), because now that I am a senator-at-large and the chair of the Campus Infrastructure Committee, I can truly appreciate what great work this organization does.

For one thing, I feel that the entire SGA really cares about our school, and I’m pretty sure we all try to do what is in the best interest of the student body. I don’t know anyone in the SGA that isn’t truly committed to making Trinity a better place. It’s really funny, but I think almost everyone in the SGA is extremely involved on our campus even outside of the SGA. Look at every senator’s planner, and you’ll see it booked essentially from dawn until dusk. Honestly, we are probably the most dedicated and driven people around – we all care about actually bringing about substantive change and, contrary to popular belief, we spend a lot of time working together to accomplish the goals that our President, Andrew Pedro ’08, has set for us. We have meetings every week, not only as the entire Senate, but also in our committees.
